The Lord answered Moses, "Is the Lord's arm too short to save? You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you."
Well, right here we find ourselves smack dab in the middle of a dessert situation, oh, sorry too much Thanksgiving dinner, I meant to say desert. Yes, this is a desert situation all right! The people are tired of manna, sort of like turkey by now! The Israelites were complaining about God's provision so the Lord decides to give them what they were asking for. They want meat! The Lord says well, meat it is. You will have so much it will make you sick! But we see Moses doubting if there will be enough meat. He questions the Lord...... something doesn't sound quite right here. He reminds the Lord there are six hundred thousand men on foot and you say YOU will give them meat to eat for a whole month! Uh, Moses I think you just forgot what happen at the red sea, uh, you know the parting of the sea, walking across on dry land, uh, the Lord saving you from total destruction and continued slavery. HELLOOOOO!
We have short memories too, don't we? We get so focused on what is in front of us that we forget what was in back of us. We forget about all the times the Lord rescued us. The thousands of answered prayers in our past. The life changing events he brought us through. The times he "parted the sea" and allowed us to cross unharmed. The hundreds of times he made provisions for us. The way he made for us when there was no way. We forget.
When King David was discouraged the Word says he chose to remember what the Lord had done in the past. That helped him to have a different focus on what he was facing today. He found the promises of God to be true and trustworthy.
When my children were little I thought as long as I held their hand or was close by they would be safe. The word picture I had in my head was my arms outstretched around them in a circle and when I moved they would move. Do you see it? Then we all would be safe. Well, that thinking carried over to their adult years as well. Boy, was I wrong!! My arms are too short! Can you imagine after all these years to realize your arms are too short! Yours are too! Only the Lord can outstretch his arms, and in this verse, he only needs one arm to provide and keep us safe and secure, make a provision or change a situation.
Now what were you saying, six hundred thousand men want meat for dinner and ..............
Praying the Lord's word richly dwells in you until we hear the shout!
